The process

how it all started
technology x craft
Flaming June is an eco conscious clothing brand. I am turning my drawings and photographs into code for a computerised embroidery machine to read and generate on clothes, tapestries and a variety of textiles. I am using this techniques to think about the future of mark marking, making sculptural, 3D drawings and wearable art. Interested in the intersections between technology and craft, I am thinking about the history of craft whilst imagining new artistic languages.
MANIFESTO
Flaming June is dedicated to creating sustainable, bespoke clothing with a focus on
eco-conscious practices. Firstly, a huge proportion of the clothing is up-cycled second hand clothes, to prioritise recycling over mass consumption. Secondly, we also offer a service to embroider your existing clothes. These two methods aim to give new life to pre-loved items. We also recycle our materials as much as possible and create badges from all of our scrap materials.

new pronoun badges
made from recycled materials
When I make clothes, the process generates quite a few scrap materials, for example the interfacing backing paper, scraps of fabric and also material experiments. Through making these badges alongside my clothes, I can sandwich all of these scrap materials together and then embroider pronouns on them so that I can reuse all of these materials in a way that doesn’t feel as wasteful. As I’m making more and more clothes, I’m super conscious of trying to be as eco-friendly as I can and I hope in this way I can move towards being more of a zero-waste maker.
